LIVERMORE, Calif., November 24, 2008- Activant Solutions Inc., a leading provider of lumber and building materials business management solutions, and Majure Data Inc., a leading supplier of warehouse management systems (WMS) for the building products industry, today announced that The Standard Group is the first building materials dealer to implement Majure Data?s RF Navigator® WMS solution on the Activant Falcon® platform. The Standard Group selected the integrated software solution to help streamline warehouse management, tighten inventory controls and improve customer service.

Headquartered in New Jersey, the Standard Group is a large, independent distributor of exterior building materials. Prior to installing the new WMS solution, the company relied on a paper-based system for picking purchased items from the warehouse. The old process required that every warehouse employee know the location of every item in the over 70,000 square foot warehouse and three-acre yard. Any gaps in the warehouse employee?s knowledge would result in picking delays, delivery delays or the wrong product being picked and sent to the customer.

In July, The Standard Group went live with the new WMS solution in its Tinton Falls warehouse. The Standard Group uses the new integrated WMS solution to handle all warehouse functions, including Receiving, Put-away, Cycle Counts, Replenishment, Order Planning, Picking and Shipping.

"If you want to reduce your inventory, get control over your warehouse operations, and better understand what your employees are doing, this is the way to do it," said John Askin, Jr., vice president of Finance for The Standard Group. "This system allows us to run our warehouse more efficiently, have confidence in our inventory quantities, anticipate problems and better train warehouse employees ? all of which directly impact our bottom line."

According to Askin, the new WMS solution has significantly increased customer satisfaction and reduced wait times. Prior to implementing the solution, the average customer wait time for an order was between 17 and 20 minutes. With the new solution, The Standard Group has cut average wait time to approximately seven minutes, and the company expects to improve this time even further. Now that the new system is in place, The Standard Group has also introduced a new service whereby pre-approved customers can call in orders and have the materials pulled and waiting for them ? eliminating their wait entirely.

The integrated WMS system also helps The Standard Group better manage its inventory. Prior to installing the WMS solution, the company conducted a regular physical inventory analysis in the form of spot counts and yearly physical inventories. Unfortunately, without a structured cycle count program, the company was unable to perpetually maintain 100% accurate inventory quantities. The Standard Group conducted a study prior to the installation of the new WMS system and found that only 70% of its SKU quantities were exact. The new WMS system allows the company to structure and automate a weekly cycle count program. According to The Standard Group, it has improved its inventory accuracy to 98% based on right SKU and right quantity on hand in just a matter of months. Based on these results, the company and its auditors have cancelled annual physical inventory checks at this location.

According to Askin, the installation has gone smoothly, and the Activant/Majure Data integrated WMS solution has proven itself in just a matter of months. The Standard Group has already begun the process of preparing four other warehouses for this system. "Initially, I did have qualms about reorganizing our warehouse operations during a market downturn, but I realize that I am biting the bullet now so that I can ramp up a lot faster than my competition when things get better," stated Askin. "We are also finding that the new system can help us weather this downturn. For example, we have more confidence in slimming down our inventories now that we know exactly how much of everything we have."
